Teen Survivorship Study (“TSS”)
What is the purpose of this research study?
- A new informational program is being evaluated specifically for teens who are survivors of childhood cancer that has been funded by the National Institute of Nursing Research.
- We want to provide information to you about survivorship (such as long-term health concerns) and we also want to help you understand the challenges of the survivor experience.
- We need to see how this new program compares with the standard program currently in use.
- If this new program proves to be effective, it could serve as a model for other cancer centers.
Why have we chosen you?
- As of the year 2000, it was estimated that there were 180,000 to 220,000 long-term survivors of childhood cancer in America.
- You were selected from the clinic roster based on the study entry criteria (long-term survivor of childhood cancer, an age of 14 - 19 years at the time of study entry, and ability to understand spoken English).
- We are hoping that at least 240 teen survivors from three cancer centers across the country will agree to participate in this research study. We have chosen one clinic in each of three states (California, New Jersey, and Tennessee).
